Holden sneered. "Don't be so

Pedro hung up. His heart ached for Kathryn.

After hanging up, Pedro turned to see Kathryn waking up.

Pedro put the phone down and sat beside her. "Miss, you're awake."
Kathryn nodded. "I woke up when the phone rang. | didn't want to talk to him, so | pretended to be asleep and let
you handle it. He must have called to test the waters."
She knew her father was aware of her brothers’ failed plot against her.
"Miss," Pedro said softly, brushing a strand of hair from her face. "Don't let him get to you. He's never treated
you well."
Holden was the most heartless father Pedro had ever encountered.
