Chapter 1393: Nikolas frowned. "So, you're tellingto be nice to Cedric?" Carol nodded. "If you want Daniela to be kind to you, you'll have to treat Cedric right. She only let you stay because of him. What did you expect your looks or the McCoy name? Daniela doesn't need to curry favor with you." Carol let out a soft chuckle as she strolled toward the car, glancing back. "If you don't believe me, test it. Be good to Cedric, and you'll see-she'll treat you like family." Nikolas retorted, "She doesn't seem to care about this 'family' thing." "That's true," Carol admitted. "But she wants Cedric to have the love and care she never received. Otherwise, when you asked for a milk bath yesterday, she would have kicked you out already." Nikolas slid into the car, mind tangled in confusion. "Why is Daniela so good to Cedric?" Carol shook her head. "I'm not sure. All I know is she truly cares about him. Since we care about her, we're kind to Cedric just to see her smile." Doubt flickered in Nikolas's eyes, jealousy and frustration churning in his chest. Why did he have to be nice to Cedric? Why did Daniela only light up when Cedric was treated well? Somewhere deep inside, envy tightened around his heart. If only he could trade places with Cedric-the man Daniela cherished so deeply.

They climbed the stairs and entered Daniela's office. Carol passed the candies she carried to Daniela, then offered sto Cedric with a smile. "These are from Nikolas. He said they're special treats from Oliscoll and really good. He bought them just for you to try." Carol emphasized "especially," her voice calm but pointed, and held Cedric's gaze.

"How is it?" Carol asked.
Cedric wasn't usually fond of sweets, but this one was just right. A light floral scent filled his mouth, and the flavor was surprisingly pleasant. He gave a small nod. "Not bad." Nikolas beamed. "These are the finest candies from Oiscoll, a treat fit for royalty." He almost added that Cedric should feel honored, but when he caught Daniela silently holding a candy and watching with an unreadable expression, he remembered Carol's warning. "If you like them, I'll bring more next time," he told Cedric.
As soon as the words left his mouth, Nikolas saw a flicker of surprise cross Cedric's face.
"What? Don't you like them?" Nikolas asked, arrogance still lacing his tone.
Cedric shook his head and popped another candy in. "No, it's just... You're e acting really strange today.”
