Chapter 1351:
Melvin gave a quiet nod.
With their conversation over, Melvin headed back to his own room on the floor below.
If Freya was the beacon that lit his way forward, then Jessica was the steady, loyal presence walking right beside
him. She was three years younger than him and Gerard—having skipped two grades in elementary school and
one in middle school, she had been the youngest in their class.
After graduation, the boys went off to Alerith University while she studied abroad. Over the years, they had
crossed paths now and then, but their hectic lives always pulled them apart.
Her sudden appearance this thad definitely caught him off guard.
Once Melvin was gone, Jessica pulled out her phone and shot her dad, Roland Prescott, a message. “I'm quitting
next week.”
Roland replied with a string of question marks. He didn’t bother texting a second time—he called her
immediately.
The second Jessica picked up, Roland’s stern voice thundered from the other end. “What was that message you

“I found a new job,” Jessica answered without flinching.
“What job?” Roland nearly shouted. “You've got a whole company to run! Don’t you care about taking over my
business?”
“Not really.” Jessica sounded completely indifferent.
Roland nearly had a stroke. What kind of answer was that? This was their family business!
His tone dropped a few decibels as he tried reasoning with her. “Tellhonestly—is the pay too low? Not
enough vacation? Whatever it is, Ill fix it.”
“Didn’t you say | should get a boyfriend?” Jessica shot back casually.
Roland paused. “You found someone?”
“I've got a target. But | need to quit if | want to go after him.” Jessica thought of Melvin’s calm, reserved face,
and the corners of her lips curved upward. “He’s slow to open up and doesn’t talk much. So I'll have to take the
lead.”

Roland frowned. “Is this guy even reliable?”
“Absolutely,” Jessica said confidently.
“What's his name? Where's he from? Where does he work?” Roland was already in full dad-interrogation mode.
“Sendhis details. I'm running a background check.”
Jessica refused without hesitation. “I'll bring him honce | win him over.”
