Jessica froze, caught off guard. She didn’t know how to answer.

“They do,” Jessica said, too quickly, her lie obvious.
“No, they don’t,” Melvin said, seeing right through her. A hint of relief crossed his face. “When | drive you home,

Jessica stayed quiet, offering only directions. When they arrived, Melvin spotted a man waiting—Jack.
His brow furrowed. “I thought we were going to your home.”
“This is it,” Jessica said, quick to cut off any chance of him meeting her parents. “Jack and | are getting married
