Chapter 1649:
“What?” Jesse said, not looking up.
“Am | sweet?”
“Yes.”
“Am | your favorite, lively and pretty little sister?” Nina asked, piling on the compliments.
Jesse paused his reading. Seeing how serious she looked, he didn’t tease her. “You are.”
“Then why doesn’t Damian like playing with me?” Nina asked, her emotions overflowing. “He hasn't smiled even
once. Is it because I’m not funny, or does he really not like me?”

Jesse thought back over the days they'd all played together.
With Damian’s quiet nature, if he really disliked Nina, he would've found a reason to avoid her by the second day.
But he didn’t. He had let her drag him around, holding his hand and making jokes.
“Jesse!” Nina raised her voice, a little irritated that he hadn't answered.
Jesse looked at her and replied calmly, “I'm not Damian. | don’t know exactly what he’s thinking.”
“Liar.” Nina scowled at him, her voice full of accusation. “You're too smart not to know!”
Jesse shrugged with a small smile. “I know I'm smart, but that doesn’t mean | can read what's on Damian’s mind.
If you want the real scoop, don’t listen to rumors. Only Damian can tell you what he’s thinking.”
Nina's lips twisted into a pout, her frustration bubbling up.
Jesse's voice stayed gentle. “Do you get what | mean?”
Nina shook her head, her tone firm. “You're off the mark. Speople are too stubborn to spill the truth.”

Jesse nodded, meeting her halfway. “That's when you trust your gut. Ask him straight up and piece together
what he says.”
Nina let out a heavy sigh, her shoulders slumping. The whole thing felt like a hassle to her.
Jesse waved a hand toward the door. “If you're done, go have fun outside. I'm diving back into my book.”
Nina's eyes flashed with irritation. “Am | even your sister? How can you brushoff like that?”
Jesse chuckled softly. “If you were not my sister, I'd have shown you out the second you interrupted my reading.”
Nina opened her mouth to argue but realized she had no comeback. With a huff, she stomped off, her frustration
echoing in her steps.
Jesse didn’t follow, knowing her anger would fade like a passing storm. That evening, Nina was still in a grumpy
mood as she stuffed clothes into her suitcase.
When she finished packing, she sought out Kristian, her face clouded with gloom.
Kristian’s heart melted at her sad expression. “What’s wrong, kiddo?” he asked softly.
Nina grabbed his hand, her voice small. “Can you helpfind Damian? | knocked on his door all day, but he
never answered.” Kristian paused, thinking it over.
Nina's eyes pleaded as she continued. “Can you tell him I'm leaving tomorrow at eight? Maybe he’ll want to say
goodbye.”
