Chapter 1654:

Ellis had been a pro. Even after years of stepping away, those skills were carved deep. A match with Kristian just

wouldn't be on equal footing.

“You don’t think | can beat you?” Kristian asked, his tone steady.

“You know exactly what I used to do. A match like that wouldn't be fair to you,” Ellis replied. Then, ever

straightforward, he added, “Just like in business, | can’t measure up.”

Kristian was at the top of the gin that world. Ellis didn’t stand a chance there.

“If you really want to compete, maybe pick something that doesn’t require brute strength,” Ellis said frankly.

“Something like chess, or gaming, or maybe a different sport.”

“You're not scared of losing?” Kristian studied his easygoing expression and couldn't help but press further.

Ellis poured himself a glass of water. “That depends on what I'm risking.”

“Freya.”

“Pardon?”

“If you lose, Freya is mine,” Kristian repeated, his gaze dark and steady. “If you win, Shaw Group is yours.”

Ellis set down his glass and called out, “Freya.”

“What is it?” Freya walked over with two glasses of freshly squeezed juice, placing them down according to each

man’s usual preference.

“He wants to make a bet with me,” Ellis said, laying it out with a casual air.

Kristian was left utterly speechless.

Freya looked puzzled. She glanced between them. “Bet on what?”

“Bet on you. If | lose, you're his,” Ellis explained plainly, still as light as ever. “If he loses, Shaw Group is mine.”

“That's a bit childish, don’t you think?” Freya answered, unfazed.

Kristian pressed his lips into a straight line. He had only mentioned the bet to test whether Ellis truly cared about

Freya, not expecting the man to announce it so bluntly.

“Don’t make bets with him,” Freya said, turning to Kristian without a hint of irritation. “He’s clever and full of

tricks. Even if you're smart, you might still get played.”

“Alright.” Kristian nodded. He wanted to ask if she was upset, but the words wouldn't come.

Ellis cleared his throat lightly.

Freya looked over at him, her gaze questioning. “What is it now?”

Ellis gave her a look as if to say, “Aren't you being a little biased?”

Freya was genuinely confused. Biased? About what?

Ellis’s expression said it all—"I’'m a decent guy who plays fair.”

Freya didn’t even know how to respond. Was he serious? Did he actually think she didn’t know him by now? She

knew all too well how slippery he could be.

“You're not being fair.” Ellis suddenly cut in. “What if he’s even more cunning than | am?”

Freya was completely at a loss. She had no idea what the two of them were up to. So, she simply chose not to

get involved. “If that's the case, suit yourselves. I'm going upstairs to call my dad.”
