Maya knew their pack was under suspicion, but today’s visit was just for questioning, not
arrests.
Clearly, there was no solid evidence linking them to Madison's treason yet-Madison hadn't implicated the Blue
Abyss Pack.
In the villa’s guest room, Adelaide and Ellen took their seats, along with an administrative assistant from the
Capital Guard headquarters to record the proceedings.
Before the questioning began, Crispin entered with Carla and Liz.
Carla and Liz, distant from their deceased mother Sidney, disliked Adelaide.
They sat down without greeting anyone.
Crispin, however, nodded politely at Adelaide.
Adelaide acknowledged him with a slight nod and said, “Please, take a seat. I'm here on official business. Answer
my questions directly.”
Carla frowned and said coldly, “What official business? Did you just get your position and now you're trying to
assert your authority over our pack?”
“Heed Gamma Adelaide’s words-answer her questions,” Maya signaled to Carla.
Turning to Adelaide, Maya forced a smile and said, “Gamma Adelaide is family; she wouldn't make things difficult
for you.”
Carla sneered and turned away, impatiently saying, “If you have questions, just hurry.”
Adelaide, unperturbed by Carla's tone, coolly instructed the administrative assistant, “Note that Carla seems

The assistant opened his folder, and Ellen quickly prepared paper and pen, responding, “Yes, Gamma Adelaide.”
Carla froze, her face cold as she retorted, “Hey, don’t fabricate things. When have | refused to cooperate?”
Adelaide remained still and continued, “Also note that Carla spoke torudely.”

The assistant swiftly recorded it and replied, “Yes, it’s noted.”
Carla strode over, attempting to tear up the record.

Ellen blocked her with a baton, coldly adding, “Note that Carla tried to destroy the record.”
Carla, thwarted, retreated two steps and dared not act out again.
Seeing Adelaide’s unyielding stance, Maya hurried to diffuse the tension. “Adelaide, don’t take offense at Carla.
She’s young and inexperienced, and this situation is overwhelming for her. We're family; there’s no need for such
stiffness, is there?”
Ignoring the notion of family ties, Adelaide responded coldly, “The Capital Guard is impartial in its duties, Maya.
Why mention family bonds? Those who abandon their own mother can hardly claim any bonds with me.”
Maya, aware of Adelaide's resolve, forced a smile and said, “Alright. Proceed with your questions, Adelaide. We'll
answer truthfully.”

Adelaide focused on Maya and asked, “Were you aware of Madison’s secret weapons stash?”
Maya quickly shook her head, addressing the assistant. “No, we knew nothing of this—nothing at all. Germain
was unaware too.”
Adelaide clarified, “Germain’s knowledge is for Germain to address. You need only answer for yourselves.”
Maya grew uneasy. If this was just a routine inquiry, why start with such a pointed question?
“Alright. We knew nothing,” she reiterated.
Outside the villa, two members of the Capital Guard stood solemnly.
Passersby, dressed as noble maids, lingered to observe how long the Capital Guard would remain and if any
further actions would unfold.
As dusk fell with no one emerging, whispers arose.
“How long would this questioning take? Were they scrutinizing every detail?”
Inside, Adelaide posed mostly trivial questions—their interactions with Madison in Blue Ridge, local conditions
there, and Madison's visits to the state.
She repeated these questions, fostering restlessness.

Despite Maya and the young ladies insisting it was Sidney's choice, Adelaide pressed on, shifting topics before
circling back to Madison's treason.
Maya struggled to respond.
Adelaide changed the subject again, looking at Crispin and the young ladies. “Do you find it suspicious that
Pandora fell ill and Germain brought you back to the capital?”
Liz, growing frustrated, retorted,
