Chapter 1652:
He reached for her hand, lacing his fingers with hers. “You seem... cheerful.”
“I am,” she replied simply, her smile deepening as she held his gaze.
One was her younger brother, the other her best friend—two people she adored. If they really ended up
together, how could Hadley not be thrilled?
“What's got you all smiley? Did something good happen?” Eric slipped an arm around her waist, watching her
closely.
Hadley leaned into him, her fingers tapping lightly on his chest. “Not telling.”
“Oh?” Eric quirked a brow. “Keeping secrets fromnow?”
“Absolutely,” she said with a mischievous grin. Then, after a moment's pause, she added, “It's about Colleen. But
everything's not certain, so I'm keeping it to myself for now.”
She wasn’t the type to spill her friends’ business, even to the man she loved.
Colleen and Brady were still figuring things out. What if it didn’t work? No sense in putting a spotlight on

Eric nodded. “Fair enough,” he said without hesitation. He knew better than to prod. Whatever her friend had
shared was safe with Hadley. Women always had a world of secrets tucked away, and not all of them were for
husbands to know.
“Then | won't ask,” he said, pulling her close and lowering his head slowly.
“Wait!” Hadley burst into laughter, covering his mouth with her hand and giving him a mock glare. “What do you
think you're doing? You just took your medicine. Your mouth must be all bitter—don’t you dare kiss me!”
“I rinsed, | swear. Even popped a mint. My mouth’s practically candy now. Want a taste?” He teased, leaning in
again.
“I don’t believe you!” Hadley giggled, shoving his face away. Her back arched with such grace that she nearly
toppled over.
Eric grunted. “Ouch! My back—"

Hadley cackled and took the opportunity to shove him away completely. “You think you can beatat
flexibility?” She taunted, tossing him a playful smirk. “Please. | didn’t spend years in dance classes for nothing!”
With a triumphant little twirl, she headed toward the bathroom.
“Don’t you run from me!” Eric called after her, his grin stretching wide. Ever since Linda left, Hadley had begun
to shine again. Watching her laughter return—it was the most beautiful thing in the world.
“Let's jump in the shower together!” Eric called out, trailing her into the bathroom with a glint of mischief in his
eyes.
Behind the frosted glass, their silhouettes danced like playful whispers caught in steam.
“Out! Get out!” Hadley squealed through laughter. “I'm showering solo—wait your turn!”
But Eric wasn’t about to retreat so easily.
“Didn’t you just doubt my flexibility?” he said, his tone silk and smug. “Have you already forgotten how
impressive | am?”
“I didn’t forget! You're incredible! A living legend!” she shouted theatrically.
“Too late for praise now,” Eric replied with a faux-serious edge. “You questioned me—and now, | must defend my
honor... with action.”
