Chapter 1279:
Greta froze for a beat. Something clicked in her expression. “What did he say about the kids?”
“He said you were scared of the pain,” Jesse answered honestly. “He said you couldn't handle it.”
“And? What else?” Greta was beginning to see the picture ctogether.
“He said that back when he was chasing you, you bawled for ages over a little scratch.” Jesse sighed, thinking
grown-up relationships were way too complicated. “If you cried that much over a scratch, he couldn't imagine
what you'd do during childbirth.”
Greta clicked her tongue. The consequences, it seemed, had finally caught up with her.
“I asked him if he'd let you have a baby if you weren't afraid of the pain,” Jesse said softly. “He toldif it's
what you want, then it’s your call.”
“Got it!” Greta straightened, ruffled his hair playfully, and said brightly, “Thanks, sweetheart!”
With that, she bounded up the stairs.

she had faked crying that day.

Turns out—he never realized she'd been putting on an act.
After Greta went upstairs, Jesse picked up his book and headed outside to the yard. He had a feeling that Greta
and Noel would have a baby soon.
Half an hour later, Nina returned with Nick. She was about to go ask Greta and Noel for permission to head out
again when Jesse grabbed her arm.
“I need to see Aunt Greta,” Nina said—not loud, but with an edge of insistence in her voice.
“She’s busy right now,” Jesse answered. “If you want to go out, take a bodyguard with you. Do what he says and
don’t get into anything risky.”
“Okay!” Nina chirped brightly and skipped off to play.
The bodyguard who cwith her followed close behind.

Meanwhile, upstairs, Greta had Noel pinned against the wall, her smile dazzling as she teased, “Told you not to
worry. Jesse's a super well-behaved kid.”
“It’s still daytime,” Noel muttered, his voice low and rough.
“Oh? Can't handle it during daytanymore?” Greta teased again.
Noel didn’t say a word. Instead, he chose to show her.
