Chapter 1656:
“Nina refused, so Jertold her to choose between keeping the wooden figurine and spending twith him,”
Jesse summed it up simply. “She felt like he was cornering her, and that’s when they both went quiet.”
Freya was unsure how to ease the tension building between Nina and Jerome.
Jesse, knowing his mom well, said, “Mom.”
“Hmm?” Freya turned to look at him.
“The main issue isn't really what | just mentioned.” Jesse had a clear sense of the feelings between the kids—
especially when it cto Nina and Jerome.
Freya paused. “Then what is it?”

“If I'm not mistaken, Jerwanted Nina to choose his gift herself,” Jesse said, offering his insight. “But Nina
handed that job over to Mr. Shaw.”
Nina hadn't trusted her own judgment when it cto gifts, so she asked Kristian to handle it. Jerome, on the
other hand, believed that anything she picked out with her own hands would've meant the world. Hearing this,
Freya began to piece it together. “I see.”
“Wantto talk to her?” Jesse offered.
“Ill have a chat with her,” Freya replied, knowing full well that Nina wouldn't open up to Jesse when she was in a
mood. “You go get srest, sweetie.”
Jesse gave a nod.
A while later, Freya went to Nina's room to find her.
The little girl was staring down at the wooden figurine in her hands, her expression blank and drained.
Freya sat beside her, letting her gaze fall on the figurine as she asked knowingly, “This is really pretty. Did you
buy it in Jeucwell?”
“No,” Nina's mood lifted just a bit, and she replied earnestly, “Damian made it for me.”
“Damian’s pretty talented,” Freya said, offering a bit of praise. A small smile tugged at Nina's lips. “Uh-huh!”

Freya chatted with her casually for a bit.
Once she saw Nina had perked up, she gently probed, “Are you still mad at Jerome?”
“Yes.” Nina gave an honest nod.
“Can you tellwhy you're upset with him?”
“He putin a tough spot,” Nina said with a pout, growing more upset as she spoke. “I brought him so many
things, but he insisted on the one in my hand. I didn’t give it to him, and then he said he wouldn't play with me.”
“That was unfair, no doubt,” Freya said patiently, gently guiding her along. “But do you really think he’s that
bad?”
Nina blinked, mulled it over, and asked in confusion, “What do you mean?”
“Before today, what kind of boy did you think he was?” Freya asked softly.
Nina thought for a beat, then answered quickly, “He's really, really nice!” He'd always think of her whenever
there was something fun or tasty. And whenever his family had something going on, she was always the first
person he'd invite.
Other than Jesse, Jerwas the best!
