So what kind of brother did that make him? Absolutely useless.
"You're really heartless, you know that? You turn your back on people without a second thought."
Timothy had always prided himself on being a good friend to Vince, ever since they were kids.
"Not nearly as heartless as you."
He was just standing up for his sister. "The moment you decided to hide her true identity and then used it to
blackmail her-what was left between you and the Zimmerman family? Maybe others didn't know how desperately
we wanted to find her, but you did, didn't you?"
Timothy hesitated, then said quietly, "I just didn't want to lose her."
"So to keep her, you made the rest of us pay for your mistake?" The memory still made Vince's blood boil. "I
trusted you. | cto you for help, | told you everything. | didn't do that so you could keep it a secret from us."
Timothy couldn't help but recall what Yates had told him: he was selfish.

And it was true.
That last remark-just now-had been nothing but selfishness.
"I'm sorry."
He said it with real conviction. "Since | was a kid, my grandfather always taughtyou have to fight for what
you want, even if it means breaking the rules. | wanted her by my side, so | did whatever it took. No one ever
toldit was wrong. | thought it was right. If you're tellingnow that | made a mistake-then say it. Tell|
was wrong."
"I'll change."
He put real weight behind those words.
He meant it.
There was nothing he wouldn't change, if it would make things right.
Vince understood where Timothy was coming from.
But he couldn't just let go of his anger, not after everything Jessy had suffered.
"Timothy, not everything can be fixed just because you've decided to change She's wanted a divorce for ages
She just wants out, and if you really want to do right by her you'll let her go. Stop holding on
They'd been friends for years. Vince was still angry, but he couldn't help feeling a twinge of sympathy.
Timothy had always been this way-insisting things go his way, never really considering anyone else's feelings.
For him to admit he needed to change was a huge step.
Vince sighed. "You don't need to change for us. You've always been just fine on
your own. Don't act like we're the ones making your life difficult."
"No, you don't understand. It's my own warped perspective that led to all this. Besides, you've knownfor
years do you really think there was ever anything betweenand Sheila? Don't you knowbetter than that?"
Vince knew. With Timothy, if a relationship didn't work out, that was the end of it;
he wasn't the type to drag things on with an ex.
Back when they used to grab dinner or drinks together, they'd talk about women sometimes.
Timothy always kept his distance in those matters. He wasn't like Kane Sutton, always on the hunt. And he
wasn't like Yates, who might not get involved but still kept a woman around for company, or for show in business.
Timothy didn't even bother with that.
The only woman remotely connected to him was Sheila.
"That's enough. | don't want to hear any more."
Vince was getting frustrated; he didn't want to know the details.
Right now, all he wanted was for Timothy to leave Jessica's life.
Bang!
A harsh noise rang out from inside the hospital room.
Timothy moved even faster than Vince, shoving the door open without a second thought.
