Chapter 320: Oh Too Human (2)

Killian noticed the change in the shifter’s scent as Drakon shifted in his seat. "They are dealt with

according to the law that we have established."

Killian narrowed his eyes. He immediately pack-linked Finn. He said, Something is wrong with

these people.’

"Are these your real thoughts, or are you simply upset that these people are wasting your time?"

Finn asked almost immediately.

"Don’t be stupid. Don’t you think that the situation around here is really weird?"

"1 agree. This place is quite luxurious for a pack that claims that they want nothing to do with power

or authority. The control here is subtle, but I can feel it - the authority of the alpha is pulsating

everywhere," Finn’s thought reached back to him almost immediately. "This place is well-suited for

humans. But for shifters, it’s way too restrained. If what this guy is talking about their control is

true, then | have to admit that | am impressed.”

If a word of it was true, then Killian would take his hat off for these people. But he knew that it was

not.

What about the pack?

It seems a bit too perfect... but | cannot say anything is wrong with what we have seen at the

moment.

And yet Killian couldn't shake off the feeling that there was something amiss. The pack was too quiet for his

liking. Every single pack that he had visited before had pups running around the territory. Testing their strengths

and the boundaries of the pack, and learning about their position in the hierarchy of the pack. Shifters, strong

and bold, could be seen running a lap around the territory. As for the older ones, they were often seen teaching

the younger generations. That was how a pack had always been or the kind of pack that he was used to seeing.

Keep an eye on these people. There is something off about them.

When have you seenslipping, my alpha? Finn asked with a sickly gracious smile, and that made Killian frown.

He turned and looked at the man beside him. Enough with that tone of yours.

Killian broke the connection as Drakon turned the car and pulled it into a driveway. He raised his head and looked

at the house, which looked the grandest and the largest house yet to be seen. Cobblestone paths lined both

sides of the mansion, with two garages and a fountain. There were several cars lined up inside the garages.

Looking brand new, as if they had hardly been driven.

"This is our alpha’s mansion," Drakon announced as he stepped on the brakes. "And this is where we usually

gather. We are going to gather here tonight for the banquet as well."

"You don’t have a pack hall?"

"Oh no." The man turned the engine off and shook his head. "We cannot have that here, not with the humans

running around. If they find out about the existence of the pack hall, then it will be problematic for us."

"Then what if someone attacks your pack?"

"We have several hidden paths underground," he pointed at the mansion. "That way, if we get attacked, we

know where to run and how to hide."

"You seem to have adapted quite well despite the shifters saying otherwise." It was hard for Killian to keep his

voice neutral, especially with his beast growling inside his head. Whatever the Silver Dawn Pack was doing, his

beast didn’t like it in the least.

And neither did he.

Drakon smiled. He took his words as literal praise and nodded. "We have indeed embedded ourselves deep in

the human society. And it’s helpful in many ways. After all, we don’t need to worry about Zealots coming here

and knocking on our doors with torches and flames."

"Survival is the key of necessity," chimed in Finn, and Drakon smiled, taking his remark as a sign of approval.

As Killian stepped out of the car, he sensed that there was more than just a little amiss. There was no scent of

forest, no wilderness, nothing that he could connect to the shifters or a pack. It was all about a freshly mowed

lawn, chemical fertilisers and the fumes of the gasoline.

If not for the scent of the shifters lingering in this place, Killian would have never believed that shifters lived in

this darn city.

His beast started to prowl inside of him. I do not like this. It feels off. Really off.

Killian agreed with what his beast said to him, but what was he supposed to do? They had a task at

hand. A task that could inevitably lead them to Inez.

"This way, Alpha Sokolov." Drakon gestured toward the double set of gigantic doors.

Killian nodded and followed him, but as he stepped close to the stairs, he couldn’t help but turn and

look at the perfect set of houses behind him. One look and he couldn’t even notice anything amiss

or different about this place. It looked just like every other human city. Nothing to suggest that the

top predators stayed or, much less, lived here.

There was something weird about the Silver Dawn Pack. It was unnatural, skirting around the edges

of the pack law and the council that had been created for the shifters. Humans were never allowed

within the territory of the pack or close to the shifters. And yet these people allowed them not only

to stay with them but also to live in the pack’s territory.

Something that no shifter would ever allow because they were possessive over their territory.

He followed Drakon inside the mansion, and a gleaming entryway greeted him. The marble was

polished so hard that he could almost see his own reflection in the tiles. The wood cabwas

coated with a thick layer of varnish, and then there was a small pup playing around the house. It...

well, It looked way too human.

And yet he couldn’t help but grind his teeth.

"Alpha Edward is waiting for you in his office.”
