Chapter 1253:

She wasn't afraid he would leave her.

Jesse stayed quiet for a moment, eyes still on the book. Then he asked, “Uncle Alan, can Nina cwith you

when you take Jerhtonight?”

Alan raised an eyebrow. “Not worried she won't want to cback?”

Jesse didn’t even hesitate. “She will.”

That afternoon, Nina stuck to Jerlike glue. They played with toys, and sometimes, she even pretended not to

know the answers to silly questions—just to get closer to him.

Watching it all unfold, Alan rubbed his chin, his thoughts spinning.

Seriously? Pretending not to know the answer to impress someone? That was straight out of middle school. It

didn’t hurt anyone, sure—only brought people closer. But how did Nina already know that trick?

“When she starts school,” Alan said to Jesse, dead serious, “you better keep an eye on her. The way | see it,

she'll go chasing after anyone she finds good-looking.”

And her skills were impressive too.

Jesse glanced up from his book. “No need,” he said simply.

Alan frowned. “What do you mean, ‘no need’?”

Hadn't he always been protective? Why did it seem like he didn’t care now?

“She only likes good-looking people,” Jesse said, totally unfazed. “And not many people look better than our

carefree dad.” He let out a small sigh. “Once she gets older, her standards will probably get even higher.”

Picky about everything—Ilooks, voice, hands, eyes, even eyelashes. It was totally possible.

What Jesse really should've been worried about wasn’t Nina chasing boys—it was whether she'd ever find

someone who met all those ridiculous standards.

Jesse blinked, caught off guard for a second... then realized, yeah—Jesse kind of had a point.

Still, how did a four-year-old already think like that?

she asked, her voice soft and hopeful.

Jershook his head, polite but firm. “I promised my mom I'd be hby six.”

He was a good kid.

Nina's shoulders slumped. “Okay.” Her mood sank in an instant.
