Chapter 1653:
Back at the house, they all sat down to have lunch together. Afterwards, the kids went upstairs, and Freya and
Ellis stayed downstairs to chat with Kristian. At first, the conversation was just polite pleasantries. They thanked
him for looking after the kids and apologized in case either of them had been too much to handle. Once that part
was over, Freya didn’t know what else to say. She was, as usual, a pro at killing conversations.
“You guys keep chatting,” Freya said cheerfully, rising from her seat. “I'll go grab ssnacks.”
Neither of them stopped her. They both knew she just wanted a reason to duck out.
With her gone, the air between the two men shifted just slightly.
Ellis, lounging on the couch across from Kristian, casually asked, “Want something to drink?”
“No, thanks,” Kristian answered.
“You sure?” Ellis raised an eyebrow at his empty glass.

myself.”
“Fair enough,” Ellis said with a shrug. “You're Nina's godfather, after all.”
Kristian went quiet. Was there anything that rattled this guy?
Ellis had a clear grasp on what Kristian was thinking. He cast a glance toward the direction Freya had gone, then
spoke again, calm and straightforward. “Do you regret what happened back then?”
“What do you think?” Kristian countered, his voice unreadable.
“If you do, then cherish what you've got now,” Ellis said, his tone unbothered. “Don’t screw it up again.”
Kristian’s voice stayed cool. “You're reading too much into things.”

“Didn’t you say that the last ttoo?” Ellis said, knowing exactly where to strike.
Kristian narrowed his eyes. “What does Freya even see in you?”
“Boldness. Shamelessness. Relentless determination,” Ellis replied smoothly, his eyes glinting with a smug grin.
“She's into those charming little flaws of mine.”
Kristian poured himself a glass of water, his thoughts drifting.
If he'd stayed by Freya's side back then—with that sboldness and persistence—would things have ended
differently?
But the way he was raised, the way he was wired... once he knew the truth, he couldn't bring himself to fight for
what he wanted. If Lawrence hadn't intervened and messed with his memory, he probably wouldn't have even
stayed close to Freya during his amnesia.
“Stop overthinking it,” Ellis said, reading him like a book. “What's done is done. Wondering ‘what if’ won't
change anything.”
“You're a real pain, you know that?” Kristian said bluntly.
Ellis’s lips tugged into a faint smirk, his laid-back tone laced with just a trace of mischief. “It's normal for rivals to
be at odds, but | don’t dislike you.”
“Why?” Kristian couldn't shake the feeling he was faking it.
“Because I'm happily married,” Ellis summed it up in a single, clean line.
Kristian was momentarily speechless. Out of nowhere, an urge flared in him—something he'd always thought
about doing but never had the nerve to act on. He said, “Let's find stafter the holiday and have a
sparring match.”
“I'll pass,” Ellis declined right away. “Our backgrounds aren't the same, so it wouldn't be a fair fight.”
