Chapter 898
Violet forgot to cry. The hurt and worry in her eyes from moments ago vanished, replaced by suspicion and
guardedness.
She couldn't meet his gaze, her eyes darting nervously. "Silas, why are you suddenly askingthis?"
"I feel like I've forgotten so much," he replied quietly. "I can't even remember how we beca couple."
Violet gripped his arm, anxious and tight. "If you can't remember, then maybe it's better not to dwell on it. The
past and the present-does it really make a difference?"
He gave a faint smile. "If you don't tellwhat happened before, how am | supposed to know if it makes a
difference or not? Good or bad, | want to know it all, Violet. | can accept anything, but | can't just muddle through
life like a fool, pretending nothing matters."

Violet stared at him, knowing this day would csooner or later.
She sat up a little straighter, her features softening. "Silas, we first met back in college. | was studying
psychology at Blue Ridge University, over in Veracoria. There was a grad student in my department-he was your
friend, and you used to drop by to see him. The more | saw you, the more | noticed you."
She gave a small, rueful smile. "Honestly, at first, it was just because you were good-looking. But over time, my
feelings changed. | becthis hopeless fangirl, always looking out for you. | knew you liked red wine, that you
were great at fencing and horseback riding, and that you hated the smell of perfume."
"That's why, every t| knew | might run into you, | never put on perfume. But did you know? Every one of
those 'accidental' encounters-I planned them all, down to the last detail. But you never noticed me."
She paused, eyes filling with tears as the memories surfaced.
Silas, unable to recall any of it, struggled to empathize. He gently pressed a tissue into her hand. “So, how did
we end up together?"
Violet stared at the tissue for a moment, then let out a self-mocking laugh. "After graduation, | moved back home
and started an internship at Thunderbolt Enterprises-only to discover you were head of the venture capital
department. By sstroke of luck, | becyour assistant."
“We both had that overseas experience, so it was easy to talk to you, and we got closer. But we never officially
got together, not even before your accident."
"But just as | started the job, Thunderbolt Enterprises went bankrupt. You left the country to clear your head. Not
long after, | got a call from a hospital in Veracoria, saying you'd been shot."
"I rushed over, but when | got there, the doctors toldyou'd mysteriously disappeared. | called the police and
searched for three days straight. Finally, | found you in a forest. Not just you-Margot was there, too. But you had
lost your memory, and the first thing you said when you sawwas that | was your girlfriend."
She finished her story and looked at him, as if waiting for something—a sign, a word of recognition.
But all Silas could manage was a quiet, almost cold, "And then?"
Violet let out a long, weary sigh. Maybe it was resignation. Maybe it was surrender.
“And then..... after Margot woke up, she insisted she was your daughter. I'd never met her before, and she
seemed a little unhinged, so | assumed she was making things up. But | had a DNA test done for you two. Turns
out, she really is your daughter."
Silas had no memory of how he met Violet, or the years of gentle tension between them. But he didn't doubt the
rest. After all, when he'd woken up half a year ago, Margot had been right there in the forest with him. She'd told
him, point-blank, that she was his daughter, and somehow, he just accepted it without a second thought.
Once his wound healed, Margot didn't want to return home, so he'd stayed abroad with her, even agreeing to her
insistence that he wear a mask in public.
But thinking back, a strange unease crept in. Who was Margot's mother? Why did none of it seem odd to him
before? Why did it all feel so... inevitable?
"So you'd never met Margot before, and you have no idea who her mother is?"
