Chapter 236: Chapter 236 - My Little Cousin

Mason's POV

| watched my little cousin pace around the room nervously.

Well, it wasn’t my little cousin. It was the devil that consumed her body and her soul.

It was hard not to think of it as my Sophie. It looked like her. It sounded like her. It smelt like her. My eyes and my

nose thought it was my Sophie. My heart knew it wasn’t.

I glanced up and down her bare arms and my vision blackened. No matter how many times | saw her injuries, it

was like seeing them for the first tall over again. | was pissed as fuck and | wished that she hadn't killed the

fucker so | could get my hands on him. | wished that | could strangle him and watch the life leave his body.

| was jealous that she got to do it and | didn’t.

The lights in the room flickered. It had enough magic to do something small like that, but it couldn’t do any major

damage.

It looked atand smirked.

“Scared?” it asked, making the anger insideexplode.

“Not even a little bit, demon,” | growled, clenching my fists tightly. “We will get rid of you.”

It sighed and approached the window. It leaned against it and lookedup and down.

“It hurts, Mason,” it said. “It hurts to know that my own family won't acceptfor who | am.”

Marcus growled.

‘I wish that we could kill it without hurting Sophie,” Marcus said angrily.

too,” | mumbled, narrowing my eyes at the thing in front of me.

“We will never accept someone that hurt our Sophie,” | said angrily. “You aren’t a part of this family. You aren't a

part of this world. You are nothing more than a leftover from a broken curse.”

It chuckled darkly.

“Well, | am a pretty powerful leftover, don’t you think?” it asked, smirking at me.

| tightened my jaw and smirked back at it.

“You are overestimating your possibilities, demon,” | said. “You are locked up in the room and you can’t use your

magic. My aunt is more powerful than you are.”

It becangry. It narrowed its eyes atand the lights in the room flickered again.

| laughed.

“You know that | am right, don’t you?” | said, smirking. “You are not as powerful as you think you are.”

It chuckled darkly. The blackness in its eyes intensified, makinggrowl quietly. | missed Sophie's eyes. |

couldn’t wait to see them again.

“My mother is nothing compared to me,” it said coldly. “I will get out of this room just as | got out of those

chains.”

| saw red. My aunt wasn’t its mother. My aunt was Sophie's mother.

“Emma isn’t your mother, demon,” | said, growling. “She is Sophie’s mother. You have nothing to do with her or

with my Sophie.”

It sighed and rolled its eyes.

“I am your Sophie,” it said, making the anger insideexplode. “It makesangry that you can’t accept that.”

| would never accept it because it wasn’t true. This thing in front ofwasn’t my little cousin. It wasn’t the girl |

grew up with. It wasn’t my little sister.

| always thought of Sophie and Alex as my siblings. We grew up together. We did everything together. We were

very close and | loved them both so much. | loved Hayden and Halley as much as | loved Alex and Sophie, but we

weren't as close. They lived in a different pack and we didn’t see each other every day. | loved all of my cousins

equally.

But my Sophie was something special.

She was something special to us all.

Maybe because she was an amazing person who loved us unconditionally. Maybe because we knew that we

could always count on her. Maybe because she was funny, kind, and loving.

There were a million reasons why, but we only needed one. She was a part of our family and we loved her.

“I won't accept it because it isn’t true,” I said, clenching my fists. “We will get our Sophie back.”

| wanted to slam my fists against the glass, but I didn’t want it to know how much its words angered me. | didn’t

want to give it the satisfaction of knowing how hurt | was.

The thing laughed and shook its head.

“It will be so pleasing to watch all of you realize that you were wrong,” it said. “It will be so pleasing to watch you

realize that everything you all went through was pointless. | can’t wait to watch my mother’s face once she

realizes that her suffering was for nothing.”

| growled loudly and barred my teeth at it.

No one spoke like that about my aunt!

The thing laughed and shook its head.

“It really was,” it said. “She fought so hard against the curse only to be destroyed by the leftover of it.”

It smirked, makingsee red.

| couldn't let it talk about my aunt like that. My aunt was one of the most important people in my life. Not only

did she saveand my mom, but she was always there when | needed her. She was kind, loving, and

understanding. | could talk to her about everything and | always knew that she would listen without judging.

Sometimes when | screwed up and made a mistake, | would go to her before | would go to my parents. | would

talk to her about it and she would giveadvice. She would encourageto talk to my parents. She made me

braver.

And | wasn’t going to let sdemon talk badly about her. | wasn’t going to let it use my aunt’s pain and

sacrifice as a weapon in its plan to destroy our family.

| growled and narrowed my eyes at it.

| wanted to go in there so badly, but I couldn't. | knew that | wouldn't be able to control myself. | knew that |

would hurt it, and | couldn’t do that. | would be hurting Sophie’s body and | would never forgive myself if I'd done

something like that.

| was just about to tell the thing what | would do with it once we got it out of Sophie's body when | got a mind-

link that made the excitement insideexplode.

My mom may have an idea of how to get rid of the darkness. Alex mind-linked me. Keep an eye on it. Hunter and

1 will be there soon.

“Too bad it won't ever happen,” | said, smirking at the thing possessing my cousin's body.

It narrowed its eyes and tilted its head.

| kept the smirk on my face, enjoying the confusion | caused.

We would get our Sophie back. We wouldn't let this thing win.
