Chapter 1642:

Eric nodded. “Right, your friend's a doctor. She works at this hospital?”

“Of course.” Hadley’s voice carried a hint of pride. “Colleen graduated from the University of Blathe. Of course,

she would be at a top hospital.”

“True.” Eric wasn't one to pry into others’ lives. “Where are you meeting her for lunch? I'll take you there.”

“No, really, I'm fine.” Hadley teased with a playful grin. “I'm not Joy. Go focus on your work.”

“Alright.” Unable to persuade her, Eric reluctantly left.

After he departed, Hadley strolled to the restaurant near the hospital where she had planned to meet Colleen.

She hadn't been there long when, instead of Colleen, Brady appeared.

“Hey, Hadley.”

“Brady?” Hadley blinked in surprise. “What are you doing here?”

“l invited him.”

Before Brady could respond, the door swung open, and Colleen hurried in, slightly out of breath.

“Why are you so out of breath?” Brady frowned, handing her a glass of water from the table. “Here, drink. Did

you run here? You're sweating all over.”

“Yeah,” Colleen smiled, taking the glass and downing it quickly. “It's been a hectic morning—I haven't even had

tfor a sip of water.”

“Here.” Brady passed her a napkin. “Wipe your face.”

“Thanks.”

Hadley observed the exchange between her brother and her friend, wondering if there was something more

between them or if her imagination was playing tricks.

After catching her breath, Colleen sat in the chair Brady had pulled out for her. “Thank you.”

She then turned to Hadley. “Last t| had an emergency, | dragged your brother into playing driver for me. |

promised him a meal, so | thought we would all eat together.”

She gestured to them both. “You guys don’t mind, right?”

“Not at all.” Hadley smiled and shook her head.

She was fine with it, but her brother? That was less certain.

Brady laughed lightly. “I'm good with it.”

“I knew it.” Colleen grinned, handing Brady the menu. “Here you go. You're the youngest here, so let us older

folks treat you. Order whatever you want.”

At Colleen’s words, a shadow crossed Brady's face.

His tanned complexion masked the change, but Hadley, his sister, noticed it clearly.

“Don’t be ridiculous...” Snatching the menu before the tension could thicken, Hadley flashed a quick smile at

Colleen. “He's not as young as you make him out to be. Just two years behind us, yet already handling himself

like a proper gentleman. And gentlemen? They let the ladies order first. We'll go ahead.”

“Are you sure that’s okay?” Colleen tilted her head, one brow raised in mild confusion.
