Chapter 1641:
Recalling the passionate moments they had shared the previous night, a quiet ache settled in her chest.
She left the room and descended the stairs.
At the base of the staircase, Ernest was about to head up. Seeing her descend, he reached for her hand.
“Morning. | was just coming to check on you, and here you are.” He studied her gently. “Did you sleep well?
Feeling rested?”
“Yeah.” Elissa lowered her gaze, her voice soft, a faint blush coloring her cheeks.
He hadn't left her alone after their night together, as she had briefly feared. Ernest gave her hand a gentle
squeeze. “Shall we have breakfast together?”
“Sure.”

As Elissa nibbled her food, she scrolled through her phone.
“Focus on your meal.” Ernest frowned slightly. “Don’t use your phone while eating. Whatever it is, it can wait.”
With that, he reached over and took her phone.
“I wasn’t messing around. | was checking my email.” Elissa’s tone grew urgent. “I think my mom replied.”
She had emailed Savannah earlier after failing to reach her by phone.
Hearing it was important, Ernest returned the phone. “Did she get back to you?”
“Letsee...” Elissa opened the inbox, confirming the new email was indeed from her mother.
As she read, her brows knitted together, her expression growing grave.
“What's wrong?” Ernest took her hand. “Is she okay?”

“I'm afraid not.” Elissa shook her head, her voice tight. “My mom is in the hospital.”
The email detailed that Savannah had undergone gallbladder surgery and was recovering at Mayo Hospital in
Aradimerm.
“Don’t worry,” Ernest reassured her. “Mayo Hospital is world-class. She’s in good hands.”
He had sent Linda to that shospital for her leg treatment not long before.
“I know.” Elissa nodded, though her concern lingered.
“Did your mom include a contact number?”
“Yes.” Elissa glanced at the time. “She’s probably resting now. I'll call her tonight.”
“Alright.” Ernest nodded. “I'm your boyfriend. Whatever you need, just tell me, okay?”
Warmth spread through Elissa’s chest as she nodded. “I'll remember that.”
Later that morning, Hadley accompanied Eric to the hospital for a follow-up appointment.
The results were encouraging: the blood clot was stable and beginning to solidify.
“I'll drop you hbefore heading to the office,” Eric said as they left the doctor's office.
“No, thanks.” Hadley shook her head. “Just go to work. Colleen invitedfor lunch.”
