Chapter 1640:
As expected, it was exactly what Elissa had suspected.
“Is that okay?” Ernest's hand slid around her waist, gently guiding her back into the room.
Elissa stepped backward, her pulse quickening. “But...”
“But what?” Ernest reminded her. “We've already shared a bed before, haven't we?”
Before she could reply, they were inside the master bedroom. Ernest nudged the door shut with his foot.
He leaned down, his forehead touching hers.
“Letstay, alright?”

Without waiting for her response, he tightened his hold, lifting her gently and carrying her to the bed, where he
set her down with care.
Elissa lay there, her mind a foggy blur.
All she could see was Ernest's handsome, refined face above her.
“Elissa.” Ernest leaned closer, his presence enveloping her as he brushed a hand gently across her cheek. “If you
feel uncomfortable, just say the word. I'll stop right away, okay?”
What was he even talking about?
Elissa wasn’t entirely sure, only half-grasping his meaning.
Though she wasn’t naive, her experience with intimacy was limited at best.
“Hold on...” As Ernest leaned in, Elissa pressed her hands against his chest, her face flushed crimson. “Isn't this
moving too quickly?”
“Quickly?” Ernest gave a soft laugh, a trace of exasperation in his voice. “Elissa, it's been five years. Our son,
Locke, is already four years old. Even setting aside the four years | spent unconscious, haven't | spent this past
year devoted to you? You call this quick?”
He shook his head. “No, it’s far too slow for me.”
The moment his lips touched hers, memories flooded Elissa’s mind.

She recalled how he had saved her from Robin's cruelty, arranged her stay at a sanatorium, and secured doctors
for her care.
He had helped her secure a job and ensured her grandfather received medical treatment.
He had once promised that whenever she was ready, they could marry immediately.
Elissa’s heart melted. She closed her eyes, her arms reaching up to encircle Ernest.
“Elissa?” Sensing her response, Ernest pulled back slightly, his gaze searching hers for confirmation. “This time,
you're ready for this, right?”
“Yes, | am.” Elissa nodded, her cheeks flushed with shy warmth. “I'm ready.”
Before she could finish her sentence, his lips found hers again.
And so, their moment of closeness unfolded, lingering through the night.
The next morning, Elissa awoke alone in the room.
Had he left?
