Chapter 1639:
He watched her for a moment, then spoke in a gentle tone. “Locke is your double. Even his eating habits match
yours perfectly. Sons do take after their mothers.”
Elissa’s fork stopped in midair, and she glanced up at him. Tears shimmered in her eyes.
Ernest seemed to read her mind. Picking up his fork, he added sfood to her plate. “From now on, make sure
to take care of him. He deserves all the love he’s missed.”
Elissa nodded, struggling to keep her voice steady. After a moment, she managed a faint smile. “But... is it
alright to spoil a son too much? Wouldn't that end up being bad for him?”
“It’s not a problem.” Ernest gave her a gentle, reassuring smile. “You can be the mom who dotes on him, and I'll
be the dad who keeps him in line.”

A soft laugh escaped her. “I'll keep that in mind. No changing your mind later.”
“I promise. No changing my mind.”
By the tshe finished her meal, the house was quiet, and the hour had grown even later.
She dabbed at her lips with a napkin, casting a glance out the window before speaking. “It’s already so late.”
Ernest understood what she was hinting at. “Head back upstairs and get srest.”
“Alright.”
Elissa rose from her seat, and he trailed behind her as they made their way back to her room.
As she stepped inside, she turned to him and asked, “Are you... staying here tonight?”
Ernest looked down, his tone gentle. “Is it alright if | stay?”

She found herself at a loss for words.
After all, he owned the house.
Thinking it over, she finally said, “Just givea minute...”
Elissa turned to leave.
She had barely taken a step when Ernest gently caught her wrist. “Where are you headed?”
“I'm going to look for the housekeeper...” Feeling much recovered, Elissa clarified, “The guest room needs to be
prepared before you can rest there.”
A quiet laugh slipped from Ernest, laced with a touch of amusement and skepticism. “You're honestly suggesting
| sleep in the guest room?”
Elissa paused, puzzled.
Was there an issue with that?
Yes, it was his house, but she had already claimed the master bedroom.
“Elissa,” Ernest's voice softened as he called her name, his eyes warming. “Are you genuinely unaware, or are
you just pretending?”
“What?” Elissa blinked, her cheeks suddenly warming as realization dawned. She had a rough idea of what he
meant.
Ernest stepped closer, his face inches from hers, his breath brushing her skin as he spoke. “I want to sleep in
your bedroom.”
