Chapter 1649:

A brother?

Brady let out a low laugh. “I'm Hadley’s brother, not yours.”

“But still...” Colleen stuttered slightly. “You're younger than me.”

So that was the issue.

Brady wasn’t surprised. A lot of women didn’t like the idea of dating someone younger.

“But I'm only two years younger,” he said, his brows furrowing slightly. “Does two years really matter that much?

Honestly, you don’t even look older than me.”

Well, that much was true.

Colleen had spent so many years in school, focused on her books and goals, barely looking up from her notes.

Her world had been small. It wasn’t surprising she coff a little younger than she actually was.

“But...” She took a breath, trying to steady her voice. Her heart wouldn't stop racing. “Why me? What do you

even like about me?”

Brady thought back to the day they first met.

“The airport,” he said, thinking aloud. “From the second | saw you, | just... liked you. | couldnt explain it. It was

instant.”

Love at first sight? That sounded like something from a movie. Colleen had never imagined it could actually

happen—to her, no less.

“I like you, and | want to see you every day.” Brady's voice softened, his tone more sure now. “So... can | pursue

you, Colleen?”

Colleen didn’t respond. Her chest was tight, her thoughts scattered. With him staring at her like that, she felt like

she couldn't breathe, much less speak.

“I... I have to go,” she said quickly, dodging the question as she turned to leave.

She walked off in a hurry, looking all flustered.

A beeping sound made her halt.

At that moment, a car cfrom the right, its headlights blinding her.

She instinctively lifted her hand to block the glare.

“Colleen!” Brady pulled her back in one swift motion, his arm tightening around her. “Watch out!”

She stumbled into his chest just as the car rolled slowly by, a heavy, grateful sigh escaping her.

The car hadn't been speeding since they were in the underground lot; still, getting hit could have ended badly.

Was she seriously this thrown off by a confession?

“Th-thanks...” Colleen mumbled, finally grounding herself. Her eyes dropped to the arm still around her.

Even through his shirt, she could feel the strength in it—solid, warm, sure.

It was the kind of arm that belonged to a grown, mature man.

“Don’t mention it.” Brady let go and took a step back, then reached out a hand. “Giveyour car keys.”

“Huh? Why?” she asked, still dazed.
