Chapter 1639:

As the pirate ship started to sway, Jesse's hands grew clammy, though he kept his face calm. When the ship

swung high, his heart raced, and a familiar queasiness crept in.

“Woo!” Nina squealed, loving every second.

Jesse gripped the handle tighter, his face a touch paler.

After one round, his nerves felt like they'd been through a storm.

“That was awesome!” Nina cheered, turning to Damian. “Let’s go again!” Damian, unfazed by the thrill, nodded

at her excitement. “Sure thing.” As the ship prepared for another round, Jesse's smartwatch buzzed. He glanced

at it and said, “You guys go ahead. I've got a call to take.”

“Is it Mom?” Nina asked, curious.

“Nope,” Jesse said, checking the caller ID. “It's Aunt Greta.” With that, he stepped off the ride and answered the

call.

Seeing Jesse wouldn't be back right away, Nina dove back into the fun.

As the pirate ship swung high again, Jesse fought to keep his nausea at bay.

“Hi, Jesse!” Greta’s warm voice cthrough the phone.

“Hi!” Jesse said, relieved to have a break.

“Why don’t you just tell Nina you're not into those rides?” Greta asked gently. She knew Jesse's fear. Since they

both loved motorcycles, they'd chatted a lot last time. “Nina’s sweet—she wouldn't push you.”

“I can’t do that,” Jesse said firmly.

Greta got it. “Because you're the big brother, and big brothers don’t get scared, right?”

“What's your plan for later?” Greta asked, glancing at the time. As a newly pregnant mom, she wanted to help.

“This call got you out of one ride, but what about the afternoon?”

“I'm still working on that,” Jesse admitted, rubbing his forehead.

Earlier, on the pirate ship, he'd texted Greta to call him at just the right moment. It worked like a charm, saving

him from another round.

“Frederick's in Jeucwell,” Greta offered. “Should I ask him to swing by and say he’s teaching you coding or

something?”

“That's too obvious,” Jesse said, frowning.

Besides, they were at an amusement park—adults wouldn't want to interrupt the kids’ fun.

“Who's with you?” Greta asked, hoping to spark an idea.

“Me, Nina, Mr. Shaw, a new kid Nina met, and a couple of bodyguards,” Jesse explained.

“How about suggesting a haunted house or an adventure room for the afternoon?” Greta said. “Nina loves that

kind of stuff. She might go for it.”

“Nah, that doesn’t feel right,” Jesse said, shaking his head.

They chatted more, with Greta tossing out ideas that Jesse turned down, worried they'd ruin Nina's fun or give

him away.

“What if | ask your mom to talk to Kristian?” Greta tried again. “He could cover for you, and Nina wouldn't

suspect a thing.”

“I don’t want him to know,” Jesse said, a hint of pride in his voice.
