The man's tone was as sharp and impatient as ever.
Marguerite was almost certain, that voice belonged to none other than Maurice and Daphne!
Stumbling upon them in the sboutique was surprise enough for Marguerite, but what truly shocked her was
learning they too were invited to Sandra's birthday party.

Maurice turned, his expression cracking visibly at the sight of Marguerite.
He coldly withdrew his arm from Daphne and made his way towards Marguerite, his voice laden with accusation:
"Frederick dragged you here too?"
Marguerite was thoroughly confused by his astonishment.
Casting a meaningful glance at Daphne, she retorted with a touch of sarcasm:
"Why, can't Frederick do as he pleases just like you do?"
Maurice's gaze darkened with a malicious intensity.
He grabbed Marguerite's wrist and dragged her to a secluded corner by the second-floor window.

Furious, she shot back:

"Because I'm your fiancé!"
Maurice's declaration struck Marguerite like a hammer blow, leaving her mind buzzing.
Was Maurice really that fond of treating others like fools, assuming she knew nothing?
She had played along with his charades before, but the way he used these threats over and over made her blood
boil.
Even a cornered dog will leap over a wall in desperation, let alone a human being.
Did he really think he could deceive her forever, playing her for a fool? Years of resentment and grievance
exploded in that moment.
Marguerite forcefully shook off Maurice's hand, grabbed her purse, and pulled out his vasectomy report and a
paternity test, hurling them at his face.
"Maurice! Do you really think everyone's going to play along with your charade?
Do you honestly believe I'm oblivious enough to be fooled by you willingly, to accept defeat and marry you?
It's tto wake up from your dream!"
