Chapter 740
Meanwhile, on the other side of town.
After Marguerite finished shopping for her dress, she initially planned to explore slocal attractions with
Frederick. She had a fondness for quirky architecture and was particularly drawn to the historic charm of old
town streets.
However, after running into Maurice, she couldn't seem to enjoy anything and ended up heading back to the car
with Frederick, driving towards the Tunez Tribe
area.
By this time, Frederick was no longer preoccupied and was slightly slumped in the leather seat, taking a brief
nap.
Marguerite, with mixed feelings, gazed out the car window at the passing scenery, her mood visibly agitated.
The car was silent for a while until Marguerite heard Frederick's calm yet husky voice break the silence.
"Why so glum?"
Turning to him, Marguerite saw that his eyes were still closed. She sighed heavily and recounted her encounter,
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt"I ran into Maurice and Daphne at the dress shop."
Frederick finally opened his eyes, a spark of interest in his gaze as he fixed his eyes on her.
"Why didn't you callover?"
"You were on a call downstairs. It seemed rude to interrupt. Besides, it all happened so suddenly; | didn't have
tto look for you."
"What was said?"
"I threw the paternity test results in his face."
Frederick hadn't expected such a bold move from Marguerite and couldn't help
but smile, "I never thought our little kitten could show her claws."
Marguerite deflated a bit, "I couldn't help it. But thinking it over, it feels somewhat improper to confront him
about it now."
Frederick pondered this.
He knew all too well how desperately Marguerite wanted to sever ties with Maurice. Yet, this timing wasn't ideal.
Maurice was cunning. To truly defeat him, the best strategy would be to play the long gand catch him off
guard at the crucial moment.
By revealing her hand too early, Maurice would have plenty of tto devise a counterstrategy.
Marguerite seemed to realize this as well, which only added to her frustration and guilt.
Frederick took her hand into his, comforting her, "Stop worrying about it. Regretting past actions won't change
anything. We'll take things one step at a time."
As for Maurice's next move, Frederick had no clear idea. But he wouldn't stand idly by.
His feelings for Marguerite were becoming clearer, and he was more determined than ever to help her escape
her predicament, expecting nothing in return.
"By the way, | heard Maurice and Daphne are also attending Sandra's birthday party."
Frederick didn't seem too bothered, "Typical."
Marguerite was puzzled, "You didn't invite him, did you?"
Frederick looked at her amusingly, then chuckled.
Sometimes he found Marguerite brilliantly clever, her mind buzzing with unique ideas.
Yet at other times, he thought her incredibly naive, missing the obvious.
"How could we possibly invite him? The Ingrams hold significant power in Veracoria, controlling nearly eighty
percent of the nation's economy. He's practically royalty.
So, if Maurice truly aims to steal the hacker's wafer technology, it makes sense he'd use this opportunity to make
his presence known."
Ah, so Maurice had imposed himself uninvited. Typical of his style.
Marguerite decided not to probe any further and settled back into her seat, trying to rest.
Yet, Maurice's words kept echoing in her mind. He had urged her to leave the country immediately and to stay
out of the matter.
There was something odd about his warning. What did he mean by 'getting involved'? Was he referring to the
wafer technology, or something else entirely?
Shaking her head, Marguerite forced herself to stop overthinking. After Sandra's party, they would be heading
back home.
Whatever Maurice was up to in Veracoria was none of her concern anymore!
