“Try not to hold onto what's already gone. Locke's doing fine now, and after you recover, we'll have time
together—just the three of us.”
He used his hand to wipe her tears away. “No more tears, alright? Your eyes are all swollen.”
He couldn’t help but worry that all this crying would only make things worse for her frail health.
“I'll try,” Elissa said, blinking hard and forcing the tears to stop.
“Just close your eyes now,” Ernest said softly. “You need rest.”
As he started to pull away, a sudden tug stopped him.
Her fingers clung to his wrist, her eyes wide and afraid. “Are you leaving?” Her voice quivered.
Ernest hesitated, something shifting inside him. “You'd rather | stay?”

He let out a quiet sigh, trying again. “How could | leave when you're like this? I'll stay tonight, so don’t worry
about anything.”
This time, Elissa managed to answer him. With her eyes puffy and red, she lifted her gaze and nodded. “Alright.”
“Great.”
A small smile curved at the corners of Ernest's mouth. She needed him close.
With a gentle pat on her hand, he promised, “I'm not leaving. I'll be right back with an ice pack for your eyes.”
Elissa had cried so much that by morning, the swelling would be impossible to ignore unless he did something
now.
He hesitated, then added, “Hadley mentioned you hardly ate this evening. Are you hungry? Do you want
anything?”
Elissa shook her head slowly. “No, I'm not hungry.”

“Okay.” Ernest didn’t argue.
He understood that when grief weighed so heavily, pushing her to eat would only upset her further.
He left for a moment, then cback holding an ice pack, which he set gently over her eyes.

with you. | won't go anywhere.”
“Alright.” Elissa’s fingers tightened around his, clinging to his presence. As his warmth anchored her, her
breathing grew calm, and she finally drifted into a peaceful sleep.
Ernest kept a silent vigil at her side, feeling the heaviness in his chest. His concern for her ran deep, yet beneath
it, he found a quiet comfort.
With her memories finally restored, he hoped the sleepwalking would fade away for good.
Suddenly, Elissa let out a faint whimper in her sleep, sorrow written all over her face.
“Elissa?” Ernest leaned in, his brows drawn tight. She remained asleep, tears slipping from her closed eyes.
