Chapter 1635:
“Jesse!” Nina shot him a glare.
“Just answering you,” he said with a shrug.
“You're not him. How do you know what he feels?”
Nina decided her jokes must not have been good enough. “I'll learn funnier ones and try again tomorrow.”
“Don’t,” Jesse said, stopping her.
“Why not?” she asked, puzzled.
“Picture this,” Jesse began. “You find a toy at someone else’s house, and you love it. You nit, play with it.
But the next day, its owner takes it back. How would you feel?”
“I'd befriend the owner!” Nina said without missing a beat.
Jesse sighed. “What if the owner was an alien?”
“An alien?” Nina's eyes widened with curiosity. “Like in the movies?”
Jesse rubbed his forehead, regretting his choice of words.

“It's just a metaphor,” Jesse explained. “The owner could be someone far away. You might never see that toy
again.”
“Then I'll ask Mom and Dad to getone,” Nina said simply.
Jesse didn’t know what to say. His metaphor wasn’t working. Damian’s situation was tricky to explain, especially
to Nina, whose mind always danced to its own tune.
“What's wrong?” Nina asked, noticing Jesse’s odd expression.
“Even if you tell Damian a hundred jokes, he won't play with you,” Jesse said gently but firmly. “He wants a
friend who'll stick around forever, not just for a little while.”
“I can be his forever friend,” Nina declared, full of conviction.

“You're a kid,” Jesse said softly. “You live in Alerith. He's in Jeucwell.”
Nina paused, thinking hard. “Is he scared | won't cback, so he’s keeping his distance?”
Jesse went quiet, unsure how to answer.
“Ill tell him I'll visit every holiday!” Nina said, her enthusiasm returning.
“Are you sure you can keep that promise?” Jesse asked, his tone serious.
“I can...” Nina started, then hesitated, remembering her packed schedule of classes. “Maybe...”
“Don’t make promises you can’t keep,” Jesse said gently. “If you can’t visit because of your classes, it'll hurt him
more.”
Nina’s shoulders slumped, her usual spark dimming.
Kristian reached out, patting her head with a warm smile. “Where do you want to take Damian tomorrow?”
“He doesn’t even want to talk to me,” Nina said, her voice serious. “Why would he go anywhere with me?”
“You choose a place, and I'll help get him there,” Kristian said kindly. He understood kids well. Even though Jesse
seemed grown-up, he was still a child. The gap between kids and adults often cdown to experience, and
Kristian knew how to bridge it.
Nina's eyes lit up instantly, sparkling with excitement. “Really?”
