Chapter 731
Margaret truly thought that Frederick coming to Veracoria to discuss a project with
a hacker was as straightforward as meeting a client at the office.
Little did she expect Chuck to start the conversation by delving into the
entrepreneur's family history.
Could it be that the hacker had been in cahoots with the entrepreneur all along?
The more she heard, the more convoluted everything seemed.
Margaret hesitated, then heard Chuck explain:
"You might not be aware, but this hacker used to be the head of the tech department in a local gang. He got
involved in sshady businesses behind the scenes, which brought trouble to the gang, and eventually, he
was kicked out."

Margaret caught on quickly, "So, the tech he developed, this 'wafer,' is part of those shady businesses?"
Chuck smiled knowingly, "Not entirely, but it's not exactly clean either."
"What do you mean? Stop beating around the bush!"
"The tech is solid. If Mr. Winston could monopolize it and integrate it into various sectors, our group could
increase its profits by fifty percent of our current assets! That would make Mr. Winston untouchable on the
international stage. The only catch is that this hacker wants Mr. Winston to use this project as a front for money
laundering."
"Money laundering?" Margaret was shocked.
"Yeah. If we get caught laundering money across borders, Mr. Winston could becan international fugitive,
and the whole corporation would suffer."
Margaret grew anxious, "What's Frederick's stance? Is he still going through with it?"
"Of course not!"
So, was this trip a complete waste?
Margaret felt a twinge of regret, but she knew better than to jeopardize the entire group and Frederick's future
for what was essentially a tech venture.
"Good! We can't get involved in illegal activities!"
Margaret thought, finally letting out a sigh of relief.
She paused, then asked, "What about this hacker's deal with Maurice Winston? Was it the same?"
"Supposedly."
"And what's Maurice's stance?"
Chuck stroked his chin thoughtfully, his tone cryptic, "Well, that's not something | can say for sure. But
considering Maurice's ventures over the past few years have been pretty shady, it's hard to say if he'll take the
risk this time."
As Chuck finished speaking, a middle-aged woman dressed as a maid cin.
She addressed Margaret in heavily accented English, "Ms. Lockwood, Mr. Winston asks for your presence in the
dining room."
Margaret instinctively asked, "Just me?"
The maid, not quite catching Margaret's meaning, looked at Chuck, her voice robotic, "What is she saying?"
Chuck translated, "She's asking if Mr. Winston will be there."
The maid nodded, "Yes, he's there."
Margaret's eyes lit up, and she stood up, heading for the door, "Well, what are we waiting for? Lead the way!"
She never thought meeting Frederick would be so complicated.
After a day of turmoil, not to mention traveling abroad and being scared by
threats, it felt like something out of a spy movie.
It almost had the tragic romance of lovers in war.
People say love in wartis pure and beautiful, but Margaret never found anything romantic about it.
With life hanging by a thread, who has the energy for love?
She just hoped that those who loved her and whom she loved would always be healthy and happy, even if fate
meant they were apart, they should at least live peacefully in this world.
